Learning objectives
  • Practice techniques that are in-demand for medical professionals in clinical hepato-gastroenterology

  • Clinicians (medical, surgical or imaging hepato-gastroenterologists) in their first to fourth year of training at the time of application

Hands-on course topics that will be covered during Summer School 2025:

  • General abdominal ultrasound in gastroenterology
  • Bowel abdominal ultrasound (IBD, diverticular disease, etc.)
  • Endoscopy – Lower GI (Polypectomy)
  • Endoscopy – Upper GI (Stomach and variceal bleeding)
  • Endoscopy with a colonoscopy simulator
  • Advanced Endoscopy (Endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP) 
  • Capsule endoscopy
  • How to perform liver biopsy and elastography 
  • Indications for and hands-on training in percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy [PEG]
  • New therapies in IBD: Practical approaches
  • Reflux and motility studies: Practical approaches
  • Complications of portal hypertension: Practical approaches

Course language is English.

Accreditation

An application will be made to the European Accreditation Council for Continuting Medical Education (EACCME®) for CME accreditation of this event.

Participation

Participation in Summer School is through selection only. A maximum of 180 participants will be invited.

Application will be open from February 4, 2025 (10:00 CEST) until February 18, 2025.

Selection criteria:

  •  myUEG Young GI Associate
    • To be eligible for application to Summer School 2025, participants need to be registered as myUEG Young GI Associates (up to 40 years of age).
    • Main carers of children can apply for an extension of the age limit (2 years for one child and max. 4 years for two or more children) to become a myUEG Young GI Associate. To do so, please submit a signed confirmation of childcare responsibilities with your application (use of UEG template is mandatory) to .
  • Training year 1 – 4
    • Applicants should be in their first to fourth year of training at the time of application. No specific knowledge is required. 
    • A confirmation of the trainee status must be provided during the application process. It is mandatory to use the UEG confirmation letter template only. Other letters not following the template will not be accepted.
  • Returning participants
    • Second- or third-time participants can apply according to the above criteria, but priority will be given to those who have not previously participated in a Summer School.
  • Diversity and inclusivity
    • To achieve diversity within the course, regional and gender balance will be taken into consideration. 
    • In addition, preference is given to candidates from Europe and Mediterranean countries.
  • Time of application
    • If all above criteria are met and we have too many participants, time of application will be taken into consideration!
    • Apply as soon as possible!

Registration

Registration fees: 

  • € 250 (incl. VAT): For participants working in countries with an HDI (human development index) above 0.890 
  • € 150 (incl. VAT): For participants working in countries with an HDI (human development index) below 0.890 
  • Please let us know if you are part of a group or being sponsored by a third party by sending an email to or informing the third party to contact us upfront. 

List of fees per country

Selected participants will be notified via e-mail (beginning of March). The registration fee has to be paid within two weeks after the notification of acceptance to confirm participation.

Registration fee includes:

  • Course fee
  • Lunch and coffee breaks during course days

Attendees are required to arrive in the evening of June 12.
Attendees are responsible for making their own travel and hotel arrangements. More information can be found under Venue. Please note that no travel and accommodation reimbursement will be provided.

Session registration:
Once selected, participants must sign up for a total of 6 parallel sessions*. Please note that these parallel sessions have limited capacity and slots will be allocated to participants on a first come, first served basis. More information will follow after participants have been selected.

Session registration is closed.

*A maximum of 3 endoscopy hands-on sessions and a minimum of 1 practical approach session must be chosen.

All selected participants are required to attend the Summer School in its entirety.

Attendees are responsible for making their own travel and hotel arrangements. 
No travel and accommodation reimbursement will be provided.

Attendees are required to arrive in the evening of June 12.

Once selected, participants will have the opportunity to book a hotel room at the Hotel International for a special rate of 115 EUR incl. breakfast and VAT (excl. city tax). This is however not mandatory but of course recommendable due to easier logistics.
