His research focus and clinical expertise is on pathogenesis and individualized care for patients with hereditary chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic endoscopic interventions.
Julia Mayerle is a full professor of medicine and vice chair at the Department of Medicine A, University Medicine Greifswald, Germany. Her research focus is on the pathogenesis of acute and chronic pancreatitis. She is working on early noninvasive detection of pancreatic cancer. She was one of the coordinators for the IAP/APA guidelines on acute pancreatitis as well as the German guidelines on the management of chronic pancreatitis.
Markus M Lerch is a full professor of medicine and chairman at the Department of Medicine A, University Medicine Greifswald, Germany. He has authored more than 300 publications on pancreatic disease including acute and chronic pancreatitis as well as cancer. His research focus is on the pathogenesis of pancreatitis at a molecular level and in animal models, identification of novel pathways through genetic analysis and their translation into clinical trials for human application. He is the current president of the German Society of Gastroenterology (DGVS) and has served as secretary of the German and European Pancreas Club.
