Two-year efficacy and safety of mirikizumab in UC

UC treatment goals include symptom control, induction of response, and maintenance of remission. We have already seen the efficacy of mirikizumab in inducing clinical remission at Week 12 and maintaining clinical remission at Week 52 in patients with moderately to severely active UC. These new data support the long-term benefit of continuous mirikizumab treatment through Week 104 on clinical, endoscopic, histologic, and symptomatic endpoints.

Risankizumab induction therapy in UC: data from the Phase 3 INSPIRE study

Risankizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to the IL-23 p19 subunit and is currently approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe Crohn’s disease. These results from the Phase 3 INSPIRE study demonstrate its 12-week efficacy in the treatment of moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis across a range of clinical, endoscopic, and endoscopic-histologic endpoints.

Extended induction response with mirikizumab in UC

Laurent Peyrin-Biroulet, MD, PhD

Some patients that do not respond to initial induction treatment may improve more slowly and require a prolonged course of induction before achieving clinical response. This study investigates the clinical response in patients who had not responded by the end of the 12-week mirikizumab induction period and who received extended induction treatment for an additional 12 weeks.

Long-term treatment goals with upadacitinib in UC

Julian Panés, MD

Endoscopic healing, and normalization of quality of life should be considered the long-term goals of UC treatment. This post-hoc analysis of INDUCTION and MAINTENANCE trial data assessed the extent to which patients with moderately to severely active UC treated with upadacitinib can achieve and maintain stringent long-term treatment goals after one year of maintenance therapy.

Endoscopic and histologic endpoints with mirikizumab UC treatment: association with inflammatory biomarkers

It’s important to understand the role of faecal calprotectin and CRP as potential biomarkers of histologic and endoscopic endpoints in UC. This study evaluated data from the mirikizumab Phase 3 trials and found significantly greater improvements in fCal and CRP in mirikizumab treatment responders and suggests that they may be useful biomarkers of histology and endoscopy outcomes after induction and maintenance with mirikizumab.

Relative association of bowel urgency with work productivity in UC

Alessandro Armuzzi, MD, PhD

Many patients with UC experience reduced quality of life due to their symptoms such as bowel urgency, but there are limited data exploring the relationship between bowel urgency with work productivity. This analysis showed that bowel urgency is a critical and independent symptom that is a significant driver for the negative effects on patients’ work productivity in patients with moderately-to-severely active UC.
